Basic Badge & Award Ceremony

Basic Badge & Award Ceremony

Planning a badge ceremony can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. This sample script is designed to give you a simple starting point—a basic ceremony that you can easily adapt for your own club. Every group is unique, and your ceremony should reflect that. Whether you keep it short and sweet or make it a full celebration, the goal is the same: to honor your kids for their growth, effort, and commitment. Customize it with your own flair—use music, decorations, family participation, or themed presentations. However you do it, make it meaningful for your group.

Here are just a few ways you might customize the ceremony to fit your group:

  1. Choose a theme—like “Adventure Awaits” or “Building Character”—and tie it into decorations, songs, or stories.
  2. Use a Badge theme – If you are all working on a badge together, use that badge topic as your theme.
  3. Let kids present to each other, with older members helping hand out badges or sharing something they learned.
  4. Include family involvement, such as having parents or siblings present the badges or say a few words.
  5. Incorporate music or slideshows featuring photos from the year’s activities.
  6. Celebrate group milestones like troop service hours, club birthdays, or total badges earned as a team.
  7. Add a memory-sharing moment – Invite kids to share their favorite badge or funniest experience from the year. It builds connection and confidence.
  8. Create a visual display – Set up a “Wall of Achievement” or table where kids’ projects, crafts, or badge-related work can be showcased for parents to browse.
  9. Include a symbolic gesture – Light a candle for each age level, plant a tree as a group, or give each child a small token (like a charm or patch) that represents their growth that year.

Ceremony

Leader:
“Good evening, everyone, and welcome to our Badge Award Ceremony. Tonight, we come together to recognize not just what our kids have accomplished—but how they’ve grown.

Before we begin, I want to speak to something important.

As you look around the room, you’ll see that every vest looks different. Some kids have lots of badges, and some only a few. That’s okay. In fact, that’s how it should be.

Each badge earned is a sign of time spent learning, exploring, and growing—but it doesn’t measure someone’s whole life. Some kids spend more time on badges. Others are busy with sports, theater, music, art, or just spending time with family. And that’s wonderful, too.

So let’s remember this: the number of badges a child has only speaks to the effort they put into badge earning—not the effort they put into everything else they do.

Whether your child earned one badge or twenty, we are proud of them. We are proud of who they are becoming—curious, kind, and capable people. Let’s celebrate each one with joy and encouragement.”

Introducing the Age Levels

Leader:
“Tonight, we recognize the hard work of our five age levels. Each level brings its own kind of growth and challenge..”

  • Preschool – our littlest explorers, full of wonder and imagination
  • Level 1 (Grades K–2) – curious and bold, always ready to try something new
  • Level 2 (Grades 3–5) – determined and independent, building skills and confidence
  • Level 3 (Grades 6–8) – wise, skilled, and learning to lead by example
  • Level 4 (Grades 9–12) – mentors, masters, and leaders in the making

Badge Presentations

Leader:
“We’ll now begin presenting badges earned throughout the year. We’ll call each child up by name to receive their badges. Some may have one badge, some may have many—but all of them made the choice to learn and grow, and that is what we honor today.”

Tips:

  • Present by age group.
  • Read off the list of all badges earned by each person. You can use the printable certificate online for badges earned to type the list on and present with the badges to make it both easier and more memorable.
  • Share an example of what was done for at least one badge per person as you present them with their badges (optional but very memorable). Example: “Sophia earned her Animal Tracking badge after identifying ten different animal prints in the wild!”

Closing Words

Leader: “Tonight we celebrated more than badges. We celebrated choices. Each child here made a choice to learn something new, to keep going when things were hard, and to challenge themselves.

That’s something no one can ever take away from them.

To every parent here: thank you for supporting your child’s growth—no matter what that looks like. And to every child here: keep learning, keep helping, and keep becoming the person you’re meant to be.”
