Ice Cream Ceremony
by Kerry Cordy
One of my favorite ways to design a ceremony is to create one around a badge you are earning. When my troop was earning the Ice Cream badge, the girls enjoyed it so much they decided we should use it as the theme for our investiture ceremony.
Supplies:
- 1 piece each of Tan, red, and blue posterboard
- 2 pieces of white posterboard
- Scissors
- Black Sharpie
- Masking tape
I designed a giant ice cream cone and cut the layers out of colored posterboard. On the front each layer I wrote a word that represented either a piece of our promise or our creed and taped a brief reading to the back . Each girl held a piece, read what was on it, and then taped it to the board. Here is the basis of the ceremony we created:

Narrator: Today, we celebrate what it means to be a Frontier Girl using something sweet and simpleāan ice cream cone! Every delicious ice cream cone starts with a sturdy base, just as every Frontier Girl begins with a solid foundationāour Promise.
Girl # 1: “I promise to love God.” This is the strongest part of our foundation. Our faith and values shape who we are, guiding us in all we do. (Paste the bottom section of the ice cream cone on the board.)
Girl #2: “I promise to be loyal to my country.” Just as the cone holds the ice cream, loyalty to our country supports our community and keeps us strong as citizens. (Paste on top of the previous piece on the board.)
Girl #3: “I promise to love my neighbor as myself.” A broken cone makes a mess, just like a world without kindness. When we love and care for others, we keep our communities strong and whole. (Paste on top of the previous piece on the board.)
Narrator: Now, we add the ice creamāwhat makes us unique and truly special. Each swirl represents one of the values in our Creed, shaping us into the best version of ourselves. (Paste on top of the previous piece on the board.)
š¦ Girl #4: As a Frontier Girl I will beLoving ā Like the first layer of ice cream, love is the base of everything. We treat others as we want to be treated. (Paste on top of the previous piece on the board.)
š¦ Girl #5: As a Frontier Girl I will be Joyful ā Joy is the sweetness of life! Just as ice cream makes us smile, we find blessings in every situation. (Paste on top of the previous piece on the board.)
š¦ Girl #6: As a Frontier Girl I will be Peaceful ā Each flavor of ice cream blends together smoothly, just as we respect othersā opinions and beliefs in harmony. (Paste on top of the previous piece on the board.)
š¦ Girl #7: As a Frontier Girl I will be Patient ā Sometimes, we have to wait for ice cream to soften before we can enjoy itājust as we persevere toward our goals, even when itās hard. (Paste on top of the previous piece on the board.)
š¦ Girl #8: As a Frontier Girl I will be Kind ā A generous scoop of kindness makes everything better. We are always ready to help others and treat everyone with respect. (Paste on top of the previous piece on the board.)
š¦ Girl #9: As a Frontier Girl I will be Good ā Just as the best ice cream is made with pure ingredients, we strive to be good in all we do, think, and say. (Paste on top of the previous piece on the board.)
š¦ Girl #10: As a Frontier Girl I will be Faithful ā Like a classic, dependable flavor, we remain faithful to God, our family, our friends, and our country.
š¦ Girl #11: As a Frontier Girl I will be Gentle ā A soft swirl reminds us to be gentle with those who need extra care and kindness. (Paste on top of the previous piece on the board.)
š¦ Girl #12: As a Frontier Girl I will have Self-Control ā Just as we donāt eat all our ice cream too quickly or we will get an ice cream headache, we use our time, materials, and talents wisely, making thoughtful choices in all we do. (Paste on top of the previous piece on the board.)
Narrator: Now that weāve built our ice cream cone with a strong foundation and layers of character, itās time to add the finishing touchesāthe toppings!
š¦ Girl #13: No ice cream cone is complete without sprinkles! Each sprinkle represents the many family and friends who support us, encourage us, and celebrate our achievements. Just as sprinkles add color and joy to our ice cream, family and friends make the sweetest moments in life even more special.
š¦ Girl #14: No ice cream cone is truly complete without the cherry on topājust like no troop is complete without a dedicated leader! Overseeing everything, they provide guidance, encouragement, and support, helping us grow into confident and capable Frontier Girls. Letās give them a round of applause for all they do!
This ceremony can be part of the introduction to an investiture/rededication ceremony, awards ceremony or advancement ceremony. Feel free to get creative with it!
