A Note from the Founder – Why Are There Three Different Programs?

We have a lot of new Curiosity Untamed members who are not familiar with our history and get confused in regards to Frontier Girls and Quest Clubs so I thought I would take a moment to explain. All these crazy badges started back in 2007 when I decided to start Frontier Girls, a scouting style program for girls. I decided to blend my passion for homeschooling with my passion for scouting. At that time I made a commitment to the girls that I would write a badge for anything they wished to learn about as long as it was not a controversial subject I felt was better addressed by parents.

In 2010 we had so many boys that wanted to earn our badges, as well as families who were not comfortable with the Frontier Girls promise and creed, that I created a spin off program, Quest Clubs. Quest took all the badges and awards from Frontier Girls, but stripped all other programming. Quest was designed for groups to create their own scouting style program to suit their goals and beliefs by using our badges and awards as a base.

By 2013 homeschoolers found our badges and began using them as homeschool curriculum an suddenly we were earning homeschool awards. In 2020 when the pandemic hit and most of our clubs closed, we launched Curiosity Untamed specifically to market badges to homeschoolers.

So now, I have three different programs, each using the badges in a different way. Unfortunately that also meant I was trying to keep thousands of badges up to date on three different websites. A few month ago, I finally decided to merge the membership sections of the three sites into one location, the Curiosity Untamed website. I apologize for the chaos and confusion this has brought about. The good news is that I hope to have streamlined things a bit better by the end of next week. Please be patient with me.

Those pages of the website that pertain to all three programs will be tri-branded at the top. Pages that are specific to Quest Club or Frontier Girls will be branded accordingly.

If you are part of the Frontier Girls and Quest Clubs program, the first time you login on the Curiosity Untamed website you will need to reset your password as these were unable to be transferred with your membership from the other websites. Sorry for the hassle.

A few of the memberships also do not reconnect back to the website properly when they auto-renew due to a glitch. If you have renewed, but the website says there is a problem with your subscription, please email me and I will fix it ASAP.

Thank you so much for all the love and support I have received during this crazy time. If you are new to the program, I hope to interact with you on the forum and get to know you all. Welcome to the Curiosity Untamed family!

Free Badge Tracking Software

I have installed basic badge tracking software run on the Caspio system onto the website. While it is not the beautiful app I hope to have someday, it does the job for those who wish to keep track of their badges online instead of on paper. The Caspio system is run on a separate server than our website so new users will need to register with it prior to use. I recommend using the same user name and password as your membership to avoid confusion. If you were using Caspio on the Quest website, your data is still in the system but you may need to reset your password. If you do, don’t forget that the links are automatic emails so they sometimes get stuck in spam. Make sure to look for them.

While the family badge tracking is up and running, I am still working on getting the club level tracking as well as the award tracking installed. I also do not yet have a user manual written. Keep checking the badge tracking page, found under the Resources tab, for updates. I will get everything up and running as quickly as I can. In the meantime, if you have any questions or problem regarding the system, just email me and I will help.

New Badges Released

Diners and Flexibility

The inspiration for the Flexibility badge was the District Director for the Texas State Senator. Kara (Eagle), troop #122, has been shadowing him for her Major in Knowledge. She and her mother, Elizabeth Simmons, noticed his willingness to shift his day and focus for different needs and his ability to reprioritize. After a variety of schedule changes in her own life in short succession, Elizabeth decided that flexibility as a character trait was worth focusing on.

Patriot Day -Never Forget

As the anniversary of the 9/11 quickly approaches, I encourage all Frontier Girls to find a way to honor Patriot Day on September 11. Ideas might include:

  • Observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 AM Eastern Daylight Time, the time of the first attack.
  • Observe the day with ceremonies and activities, including remembrance services.
  • Flags should be displayed at half-staff in honor of the individuals who lost their lives from sunrise to sundown.
  • Make cards or banners for first responders

RC Gas Boat Badge Opportunity

I will be at Legg Lake, CA in the Los Angeles area supporting my husband at the 50th NAMBA Nationals RC boat races from September 20-25. Two years ago at the IMPBA Nationals in Maryland I had the opportunity to meet many of our east coast members as they came out to watch the race and learn about RC boats and would love to do the same on the west coast. These are large 60-80mph gas powered boats and the races are spectacular. If there are any members in the Los Angeles area who would like to come say “hi” and maybe even earn their RC boat badge, please email me. I would love to meet as many of you as I can. The races are free of charge and members of KC Racing, San Juaquin River Racers and the VooDoo Racing team are happy explain the boats to anyone who has questions.
