Preschool: Do three requirements including the two starred

_____ 1*. Know what a dragon is. Draw a picture of your favorite dragon.

_____ 2* Read three books about dragons with a parent or listen to them as an audio book or on Youtube. A few examples may include:

  •             “Dragons Love Tacos” by Adam Rubin
  •             “Waking Dragons” by Jane Yolen
  •             “Dragon was terrible” by Kelly DiPucchio
  •             “Dragon Breath” by Ursula Vernon. *This book cannot be found on YouTube

Level 1: Do four requirements including two starred

_____ 1* Do Preschool requirements 1&2

_____ 2* Identify at least 3 different types of dragons from books you have read. What makes them different? How do they behave? What do they look like? How big are they? Do they have any special powers? Can they speak?

Level 2: Do five requirements including the two starred

_____ 1* Do Level 1 requirements 1&2

_____ 2* Read a dragon book series with more than one book such as Wings of Fire by Tui T. Sutherland.

Level 3: Do six requirements including the two starred

_____ 1* Do Level 2 requirements 1&2

_____ 2* Study the history of dragons and where their myth originated

Level 4: Do seven requirements including the two starred

_____ 1* Do Level 3 requirements 1&2

_____ 2* Research dragons in literature throughout history. How has the portrayal of dragons in literature changed over time?

Level 5Do nine requirements including the two starred

_____ 1.* Do Level 4 requirements 1 & 2

_____ 2.* Teach someone how to do a skill from this badge or teach some knowledge about this badge to someone. You can teach kids, your spouse, seniors, anyone, just as long as you are sharing your new found knowledge. If for some reason you cannot teach what you have learned to someone else, you may choose an additional 2 optional requirements instead.

Optional requirements

_____ 4. Research graphic design jobs or costume makers who create dragon books or movies

_____ 5. Study and list five anatomical facts about dragons you have learned about. For example, wing span, types of fire they breathe, height, color, scales/feathers/horns, etc. Compare and contrast at least 5 different types of dragons.

______ 6. Find mystical music online and paint or draw a dragon or mythical creature. How does the music help inspire you?

_____ 7. What is a myth? How are dragons myths and what part do they play in our history?

_____ 8. Create a dragon craft or paint a dragon stone and give it to someone who needs cheering up.

_____ 9. Make a sculpture of your favorite dragon

_____10. Make a short graphic novel about dragons. Share it with family or friends.

_____ 11. Research the author of your favorite dragon book or series. What was the inspiration for their book(s)?

_____ 12. Write a short story featuring a dragon.

_____ 13. Learn about Chinese dragons. How do these dragons typically differ from traditional mythological dragons?

_____ 14. Make a graph comparing and contrasting dragons to lizards, dinosaurs, and reptiles.
